E-mail Task Force Kick-off Meeting
Meeting Minutes:

In Attendance: Don Fry, Celeste Stewart, Mark Sirota, Shumon Huque,
Roberto Mansfield, Peggy Yetter, Hal Dell, Andrew Diller, Mark Aseltine,
Magida Phillips.


1. Introduction

- There's an e-mail reflector list emtf99@pobox for group discussion.

2. Team Mission:
- Test Messenger in Netscape Communicator 4.51 against last year's
requirements and scripts to confirm compatibility, identify new or
improved functionality. Draft changes needed in the documentation.

3.     Current E-Mail Recommendation:

4.   Time Frame & Meeting Schedule:

5.     Project Tasks: 
  a) Test Environment:

Server: 
        Peggy and Mark are to provide the team with an IMAP test
        server running VW IMAPd version 4.5.    

Desktop:
        Mac (PPC) - running Mac OS 7.6.1 & Mac OS 8.5.1
        PC - running Windows 95, 98, & NT.

b) Test Process

        -Test using last year's script: Team agreed at minimum we should begin testing with last year's script.  Re-examine the list of strengths and weaknesses in Messenger 4.05 against Messenger 4.51

        -Identify new features in Messenger 4.5x. Using Netscape's list of new features in Netscape Messenger 4.51 Visit

        -Generate a test script for the new features in Messenger 4.51 Team members assigned the responsibility to write a test scenario for
each of the new features in 4.51.

1. A three-pane user interface for simplified message management. --Joe

2. A new 2-pane address book interface that supports multiple address
books
3. PinPoint Addressing
4. Finds e-mail addresses from multiple personal address books & or a
University directory. -- Joe Harris & Andrew Diller


5. Import Utility to import messages, mail folders, address books, and
preferences from Eudora. -- Magida Phillips

6. Synchronizes email and address books with the 3Com Palm Pilot. --
Andrew Diller, Shumon Huque and Joe Harris.

7. Delivers high-performance mail over a fast or slow connection via
rich IMAP support -- Using last year's test script.

8. Supports standards based MDN Read Receipts. -- Mark Sirota
Impact on the enabled read receipt option.  


9.  Enables participation in secure discussion groups via NNTP SSL with
a new three-pane interface. -- NNTP Team 

10. Creates reusable message templates. -- Don Fry

11. Integrates with desktop application via Simple MAPI Support.  -- Hal
Dell, Roberto Mansfield and Andrew Diller.

12. Impact on settings, preferences and bookmarks after upgrade from
4.0.x to 4.5.1. --Mark Sirota


FLEXIBLE ROAMING ACCESS: Mark S. and Peggy are to install and configure
the components required to allow us to upload the Netscape User Profile
on to the server.
The components are:

1) Apache HTTP Put enabled
2) HT Password Wrapper.
* Issues that Peggy and Mark need to address:
        --Robustness & Security

The team will re-visit the Roaming Profile feature/functionality to
write a test script at a later date. 

c) Documentation Update: Team will update the documentation to reflect
the changes
in Messenger 4.51.
