E-Mail Task Force

Meeting Agenda

1. Update:

-Newsreader component on accident

An unused feature on the server was disabled. Mark Sirota will follow-up with more details.
-EMTF test script
Modify Section V: Move Interoperability and Offline testing to a separate section in the test script. Those tests are not a good measure of high-performance mail over a fast or slow connection via rich IMAP Support.

2. Test Script:

-Who on the team tested roaming profiles
Roaming access was tested by:
Mark Sirota on NT from home and office
Roberto Mansfield from home using Win95 and from office using NT.
Andy Diller from home and office using Win95/98 and NT.

-Who on the team will test or has tested synchronization between Messenger and the Palm PDA?
Andy & Shumon have tested addressbook synchronization.
Mark Sirota has agreed to test e-mail and addressbook synchronization.
Joe Harris will test addressbook synchronization.

3.Mac Testers:
We need more testers using Messenger on the Mac. Sarah, Magida and Joe will test Messenger using MacOS.

3. Discuss initial results.
Section I. All testers saw the same behavior.

Section II. All testers saw the same behavior. Andy pointed out that this section if misconfigured could result in mis-sent mail. Next week we come up with recommended configuration and if time permits a paragraph for the LSP Notes document.

Section III. All testers saw the same behavior except when importing nicknames from Eudora into Messenger. Sarah and Magida reported that the nicknames did not tranfer to Messenger while Don reported that his worked successfully? (Need to repeat this part)

Section IV. Palm PDA testers focused their testing on synchronizing addressbooks between Messenger and the Palm PDA. All agreed that the odd behavior and the dos and don'ts identified so far by Andy and Shumon must be added in the LSP Notes document.

Section V. No need for testing. This version contains a better implementation of IMAP because of:
The Attachments are not downloaded until they opened.
Searches are done on the IMAP Server Side

Section VI. Read Receipts work but not to be depended on. More information will be provided in the LSP Notes document.

Section VII. Reusable Message Template works. More information will be provided in the LSP Notes document.

Section VIII. This team can not properly evaluate this feature because of the following issues:
This feature is proprietary to Netscape Newsgroup Server
NNTP over SSL allows encryption of username, password and all netnews traffic. Our longterm strategy is authenticated secure discussion groups not encrypted.

IX. All testers got the same behavior. Roberto pointed out that Outlook stops working when MAPI is enabled and starts working when MAPI is disabled. Hal added that Addressbooks in all MAPI enabled applications except for Netscape will break when simple MAPI is enabled.

X. Roaming Access works but not recommended. More information will be provided in the LSP Notes document.
