    5. Configure Eudora to receive attachments in the Eudora's Default Attachment Folder.
      • Send and receive a message with an attachment (Received in the Attachment Folder).

    6. Configure Eudora to receive attachments in a Folder outside of c:\Eudora Folder. In the root directory create an attachment folder call it "Testattach".
      • Send a receive a message with an attachment (Received in C:\Testattach)
    7. Copy all your e-mail messages (read/unread) from the inbox to the "testone" folder.

    8. Definition:
      • Alias or Nickname= 1 users' e-mail address
      • Personal Distribution List= More than 1 users' e-mail address

    9. create 3 Nicknames and 3 Personal Distribution List with a minimum of 5+ users in the Personal Distribution list

      • Install (fresh install) and configure Netscape Messenger 4.51. During the installation and configuration of Messenger request to import your Eudora mail folders, personal address books (Nicknames) and preferences into Messenger.

        • Did all the nicknames and Personal Distribution List carryover?
        • Did any of the preferences set in Eudora move to Messenger? If so, which ones carried over and which ones didn't?
        • What happened to the read messages? Were they marked read after the import process?
        • What happened to the new unread messages?
        • Did you loose any of your email messages? If yes, please explain.
        • Did all you folders carry over to Messenger?
        • Did all your attachment folders (Attachment and testattach) carryover?
        • Where did Messenger place the attachment folders?

      • Netscape Messenger already installed. In Messenger under File select import to import your Eudora mail folders, personal addressbooks (Nicknames) and preference into Messenger.

        • Did all you folders carry over to Messenger?
        • Did all your attachment folders (Attachment and testattach) carryover?
        • Where did Messenger place the attachment folders?

IV)Synchronizes e-mail and address books with the Palm PDA.

      1. Configure Messenger to synchronize with the Palm PDA
      2. Synchronize Categories on the Palm PDA into addressbooks in Messenger.
        • Repeat synchronization with the Palm PDA:
          • with many addresses, and many Categories
          • with new data
          • with modified data
          • with new/changed category

      3. Netscape addressbook into Categories on the Palm PDA.
        • Repeat synchronization with Netscape addressbook:
          • with many existing contacts and/or Address books
          • with new data
          • with modified data
          • with new Address Book
          • Name change to existing Address book/Category

      4. Max limit of entries

      5. What happens with more than 15 Address books in Netscape (i.e. which don't get turned into categories)

      6. Modify an entry in both netscape and the palm and then synchronize. Did you see duplicate entries?

      7. Create an entry exists in both places (PDA and Netscape) and then synchronize. Did you see duplicate entries?

      8. After synching did all unfiled entries in the Palm end up in the personal addressbook in netscape?

V)High-performance mail over a fast or slow connection via rich IMAP support

        1. 1998-1999 Phase II Test Script:
          • Interoperability between ELM and the IMAP GUI client Messenger 4.51.
          • Offline and Synchronization Testing

VI) Supports standards-based MDN Read Receipts

This feature works but should not be relied upon as a means of receipt delivery and reply notification. Issues related to the supported MDN Client and DSN Server standards makes it difficult to thoroughly and accurately test this feature. The MDN standards works between Messenger 4.51 clients BUT will not work between all mail servers.

          VII)Reusable Message Template

          1. Test Reusable Message Template:
            • Create 2 new templates. one using MS Word and one using a text editor.
            • For each template use a different Signature files and different formatting as part of the test.
              • Where are the templates saved?
              • Can you rename the template?
              • Add a template with the same name as another in directory. What happens?

          2. Edit some of the files created in the first step.
            • What formatting features remain from the MS Word document?
            • Are word wrap and paragraph justification ok in templates created from received messages?
            • Check search and replace capabilities.
            • Edit a template not stored in the template directory.
            • What happens when you change that template?
            • Make changes to template and save. What happens?

          3. Delete a template from Server folder and local folder.
            • Can the deleted message be recovered?

          4. Template Folder
            • Create a folder off the default Template folder on both IMAP server and local.
            • Copy files in the main Windows Pane through the file option.
            • Drag and drop files from template to the created folder. Were messages moved or copied?

          5. Try this same procedure using Message Center (Communicator/Tools/Message Center).
            • Sort folder by various columns headings
            • Thread and unthread same-named Subject messages.

          6. Sending a template Message
            • Send templates created in earlier steps to individual addresses and to mailing lists
            • Receiving a template message
            • Examine messages received in previous step in both Elm and Messenger.
            • Did text-wrapping work correctly?
            • Can you change subject on a forwarded message?
            • Can you add a preface to the received template before forwarding?
            • Test filtering capabilities.

VIII)Enables participation in secure discussion groups via NNTP SSL

At this time the Newsreader evaluation team and the EMTF cannot properly evaluate this feature because of the following issues:

            • This feature is proprietary to Netscape Newsgroup Server.
            • NNTP over SSL allows encryption of username, password and all Net News traffic. Our longterm strategy is authenticated secure discussion groups not encrypted.

IX) Integrates with desktop applications via Simple MAPI support.

            1. Enable MAPI under Netscape either at installation time, or by going to the user preference Edit->Preferences->Mail & Newsgroups and checking the box "Use Netscape Messenger from MAPI-based applications".

(Note: Both Outlook 97 and 98 will fail to start after Netscape is configured as the MAPI mail client. If you use either versions of Outlook, make a backup copy of mapi32.dll in the system directory appropriate for your Windows OS. The default for Windows NT is the system32 directory and the default for Windows 9x is the system directory. Netscape should also make a backup of mapi32.dll and name it mapi32bak.dll in the appropriate system directory as discussed above.)

              • Repeat these steps with all your MAPI-enabled applications.

              • With Netscape not running, go into an application that supports MAPI (i.e., has a "Send To" function in the menu options). Some common programs which have this feature are Word, Excel, Corel WordPerfect.

              • Create a test document (if appropriate) and use the "Send To" feature in the application. Does this generate a blank message with an attachment? If testing a browser, click on a "mailto" link.

              • Does Messenger launch as the mail client from within MS Word? Ms Excel? Corel?

              • Check that addressing, address books, and directory lookups work as expected. Report any problems.

              • Send the message. Does a copy go into your "Sent" folder (assuming Messenger is configured to do this)?

              • Check the message. Did you receive the message correctly? Do the attachments come through?

              X. Flexible roaming access

The test consisted of uploading the users' preferences and bookmarks. A specific testing script was not written for this feature. Although this feature works we strongly recommend that this feature NOT be used at this time. Server security is lacking.
