Webmail Evaluation 2000 - User Interface Test Form - Comments

1. Send the following simple message to yourself (with typo's): User 14:on question 1:
Twig
User 12: Attaching a Word doc, the app prompts for saving. Once you save the file, if you try to open the file, Word is envoked.

User 1: Just used the mouse to move around (moving to different line, word, etc.). Copy and paste works from other application. Cannot find search function. Was able to save as a draft and retrieve.

User 2: When tabbing (or moving) to the message field, browser jumps. Drag & drop works. When resizing the window the messge vanishes and is replaced by a 'Data Missing' screen. Have log back into twig

User 3: Not a feature for this product

User 4: Drag and drop worked

User 13: I could do all of the above with one or the other, but those indicated no I could not do with the keyboard shortcuts. Also, the spell check did not check tense and control+home affects the browser itself, not the email applet.

IMP
User: 17 Spell check did not find any errors

User 17: Spell check doesn't suggest corrections

Drag and drop worked

User 14:: A Spell Checker exist but does not work.

User 5: Spell checker did not consider "checkedout" a problem. Spell checker simply highlights problem word in red in separate window, user must return to composition window and correct the mistake "manually." Page up/down accomplished by scroll bar. Composition window not resizeable (on a 1024x768 screen I have a lot of white space at the bottom). Difficulty sending mail with "largemail" mailbox. Copied "smallmail" and had no problem.

User 9: <TAB> key does not work. Have to manually indent.

User 11: somewhat odd in that another web window appears with the results. I liked that the compose message was a separate window from the inbox.

WorldPilot
User 16: no built-in help available

User 7: Not a feature in Worldpilot

2. After sending the message in question 1, examine the message you receive.
User 14:on question 2
Twig
User 1: Message looks fine.

User 2: New message not distinguishable (i.e. not bold)

IMP
User 17: Gives alert for new mail
Doesn't open message in new window

User 5: Messages was fine. Took 12 seconds to open the message. But this was not consistent, some messages open fine with no difficulty. You have to figure out to use the reload button to refresh your mailbox (doesn't say this anywhere obvious). You get a "new mail message" both when the message is received and when you refresh your mailbox.

3. Send yourself a message with an ASCII text file as an attachment. Examine the message you receive. User 14:on question 3:
Twig
User 2: Checking spelling after adding attachment causes attachment to vanish (like selectin users). Document name lost.

User 3: It gives you the option to view the file or save it. If the former option is chosen it shows the text contents right below the message.

User 10: File sent as "application/octet-stream". Browser handles processing of attachment.

IMP
User: 17 File creation info is not preserved. After downloading attachment Mac OS does not know what application to open it with.

User 15:: if the ascii file has an extension (.doc) associated with another type of file problems occur. if I make the file with a .txt extension it works and appends the info to the bottom of the message body.

User 5: No. Saves it as an application/octet stream and doesn't seem to be readable. Not something that has a setting in the preferences. You can save it by clicking the small "disk" icon to the right.

User 5 (re-test): Re-checked this. I create a message in IMP, attache an ascii file ( BBedit file). Send it to myself at spinner account. When I receive the message , the attachment is of type "application/octet stream" and is not readable.

Now, when I send the ascii attachment to my mail.med account and read with Eudora Pro the text is appropriately displayed in the message body (not even treated as attachment). When I send the same attachment from mail.med to spinner, it also correctly displays the ascii text in the message body. Outcome of test from one spinner account to another still outstanding.

User 11: Warning: Unable to open '\\php2' for reading: No such file or directory in c:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\htdocs/horde/imp/compose.php3 on line 626

WorldPilot
User 16: Attachment is sent properly, but WorldPilot does not show *any* contents of the message or the attachment either.

User 7: All that I am able to see it the header of the message, no indication that a file is attached to the message. But forwarding the same message to another web base email (usa.net). I'm able to see an attached file and view the contents.

User 8: The message body does not display, however. The attachment is downloaded to your local hard drive and the browser handles opening the message.

4. Send yourself a message with a non-text file attached (e.g., an ordinary, unconverted word processing or spreadsheet file). Examine the message you receive. User 14:on question 4:
Twig
User 2: Attachment name lost documet extension allows Mac to know icon - no extension gives blank doc.

User 3: When I tried sending a quicktime file it stated the size of the file was to large, so it logged me out. With the word document it asks the user to save, open etc... the file.

User 4: Spell check causes attachment to vanish

User 10: File is sent as "application/octet-stream". Attachment processing controlled by browser preferences.

User 13: Automatically went to save. No option to open from present location. I was able to choose where to save it and open it outside the browser.

IMP
User: 17 File creator info is changed/lost. Excel98 documents are recognized as older versions files.

User 17: Clicking on the underlined attachment just gives a seperate window showing the file name. Clicking on the the little disk icon saves the file to a location of the users choice.

User 15:: looks like default processing is just to save file to local file system.

User 14:: it prompts you to read, save the attachement.

User 5: Inserts "%20" for attachment file names with spaces, saves back in same format, does not preserve document type in any way. Attachents are a little tricky because you browse for the attachment, click OK in the standard OS window, but still have to click an "attach" button in the IMP interface, and if you forget, it ain't attached.

User 5 (re-test): a) no, not without launching another application
b) no, neither IMP (spinner) or Eudora Pro (mail.med) can determine the document type
Content-Type: application/octet-stream; name="e-mail%20clarifications"
Content-Disposition: inline; filename="e-mail%20clarifications"
c) IMP provides the little disk icon indicating that it can be downloaded. no other indication.

User 9: Gives you ability to download attachment but doesn't launch an application.

User 11:

WorldPilot
User 7: Machine did not have a word processing software installed.

User 8: WordPilot attaches these files as type "application/octet-stream"; the browser handles processing of the attachment once you click on "Download the attachment".

5. Receive attachments on the mail systems we are testing inter-operability with.
User 14:on question 5:
Twig
User 2: URLs show up as links.

User 3: For both questions above you need to save the file or open it in with the respected application. The contents of these files do not get embedded in the message.

User 10: TWIG displays the HTML in a separate window after clicking "View."

User 13: I sent an HTML based email from Outlook and it send the background image as a separate file.

IMP
User: 17 User must click on a link in order to read message as HTML

User 17: plain text in message window - but HTML can be read as HTML in a seperate window after clicking on the 'parts' choice.

User 15:: sometimes have to view source to read them.

User 5: A MS Word attachment sent from spinner to mail.med was unrecognizeable as a Word file. Sent from mail.med to spinner, it *was* recognizeable as a Word file. tried to sent an html format message from mail.med to spinner (not sure I did it right and couldn't tell if IMP can display html messages.)

User 5 (re-test): a) can read ascii attachment from mail.med, can read ascii attachment sent to mail.med; cannot read non-ascii attachment sent either direction.
b) can read html in IMP, message bounced to mail.med was OK (displayed in message body)

User 11: I clicked on download, I had the option of viewing or saving and was able to see the .doc fine. Here is the error:
Warning: fopen("/tmp/imp.word.2000-Apr-Sun_22:16:24__1f6f1ff7c35f3b71c708b906ac915c09","w") - No such process in ./lib/mimetypes.lib on line 286

HTML opened fine within msg, clicking on it or downloading it.

WorldPilot
User 16: Zope error when viewing ASCII attachment. Binary attachment fine.

HTML works. Unbelievable!

User 7: See Question #3

User 8: WordPilot will not display messages formatted in HTML, but does retain the text if the message is forwarded to an HTML-capable e-mail package.

6. Create two distribution lists (multiple recipients) User 14:on question 6:
Twig
User 2: no Distribution list choice. Groups button doesn't seem to allow a list

User 4: Didn't work - what are 'Groups'? Looks like contacts can be added to a group - but not multiple groups (unless they're re-entered). Doesn't look like groups can be added as a mail destination.

User 10: TWIG allows you to create "groups" to categorize your contacts, but it takes some guesswork to figure out how to get to the group management screen from the contact list. It is also possible to enter multiple e-mail addresses in each of the 3 e-mail fields on the contact form. TWIG does not recognize the commas as address separators; instead, the following error message is generated:^ M
smiths@pobox.upenn.edu,MISSING_MAILBOX_TERMINATOR@.SYNTAX-ERROR.,smiths@ spinner.isc-net.upen.edu,UNEXPECTED_DATA_AFTER_ADDRESS@.SYNTAX-ERROR.

but a message sent using the entry that caused the errors nonetheless was delivered to the pobox account but not the spinner account.

It appears to me that the group names cannot be used as aliases.

User 13: I was able to create, but unable to go back and edit.

IMP
User: 17 n/a

User 17: can't find way to create.

User 15:: worked but gave an error even though it was successful

User 5: Can't find a way to create a list.
When I tried to create a nickname with two addresses, separated by a comma, I got the following error on sending:
The original message was received at Mon, 17 Apr 2000 14:36:46 -0400 (EDT)
from httpd@localhost
----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
MISSING_MAILBOX_TERMINATOR@.SYNTAX-ERROR.

553 5.1.2 UNEXPECTED_DATA_AFTER_ADDRESS@.SYNTAX-ERROR.... Invalid host name

User 9: Couldn't figure out how to.

User 11:

WorldPilot
User 7: Easily done, no problems, ask for a lot of personal detail, I consider that a good thing.

User 8: The process for creating distribution lists in WorldPilot is not intuitive from the address book interface. Nicknames are not clickable from the addres book window. (The "e-mail" field in the address interface accepts multiple addresses.)

7. Create some aliases (nicknames) User 14:on question 7:
Twig
User 12: From Contacts, you create the alias. I find it odd that you go to the trouble to create a nickname but you're shown the list of email addresses from the Contacts list.

User 2: Done with Contacts - easy

User 4: No problem

User 10: This is done via the contacts list. Each entry can contain 3 distinct e-mail addresses (but see also comments for question 6).

IMP
User: 17 no problem

User 17: done in Contacts - although the user has to be 'selected'

User 5: It appears that the only way to "manage" aliases is from a pup-up menu. How is someone supposed to manage 200 addresses/nicknames that way? The only way to find or use a contact is to click the pop-up menu. No database functionality, apparently.

User 9: Contacts window is fairly easy to understand.

User 11: WorldPilot
User 16: Works

User 7: See Q#6

User 8: See above; however, it is possible to use the First Name or Last Name fields to create a clickable nickname.

8. Look up an address; add it to a distribution list.
User 14:on question 8:
Twig
User 12: Couldn't see an interface to LDAP.

User 2: See above - no distribution list

User 4: See above - no distribution list

User 10: TWIG does not have a built-in directory lookup function. I was able to copy and paste an address from another program into a TWIG contact form.

Contacts appear in a window above the message composition area when composing a new message. However, the contents of the three e-mail address fields on each contact form display as separate contacts, and if nothing is entered in the name fields, the address displays without any other identifying information (i.e., nicknames do not appear in the window).

IMP
User 17: Typing the nickname in a new message brings up the email address of the person

User 5: You can only insert a nickname into the message when you use "contacts" from the "compose" window. When you compose, you seem to need to have the cursor in the "to" field, and then you need to select your nickname from the pull -down list and click "insert" but the contacts window doesn't go away, so you have no feedback as to whether it worked or not until you click the "close" window

WorldPilot
User 16: LDAP does not work. No distribution lists.

9. Invoke message handling capabilities (especially through gateways). User 14:on question 9:
Twig
User 13: No options available for this function that I saw.

IMP
User: 17 n/a

User 5: Ain't there.

WorldPilot

10. Send a single message to everyone on two distribution lists. User 14:on question 10:
Twig
User 2: See above

User 3: I like the way it gives you the option to choose whether you want the addressee to be the recipient,or if you want them to be "cc" or "bcc" for the message.

User 4: See above - no distribtution list

User 10: Group names cannot be used as distribution list aliases; also, the three e-mail addresses in each contact entry appear as separate contacts on the contacts list window. See also comments for question 6.

IMP
User: 17 n/a

User 17: can't creat distribution list

User 15:: worked but gave an error even though it was successful

User 5: Can't.

User 9: Can't create a distrbution list.

User 11:

WorldPilot
User 16: N/A

User 7: This can be done, but it doesn't give you the option to do "bcc" or "CC". It embeds the addressess in the "To" field.

User 8: Entering nicknames in the "To" field does not work; to do this, you must check the check-boxes next to each nickname in the Addresses window then click on the compose message button.

11. Send a message to a personal alias. User 14:on question 11:
Twig
User 12: Fine.

User 2: Just typing in the nickname does not work

User 4: Doesn't work

User 10: Messages can be sent to contacts, but not to nicknames or group names.

IMP
User: 17 no problem

User 17: Typing the nickname in a new message brings up the email address of the person

User 5: NO problem.

User 9: Fine.

User 11: WorldPilot
User 16: Works.
Can not simply enter nickname in To: field. You must select it from Address book, and it enters fully qualified address in To: field.

User 8: See question 10.

12. Create some folders and sub-folders.
User 14:on question 12:
Twig
User 12: I like the folder management utility. I like how you can create sub-folders, rename them, etc. Moving a message is actually using the expunge method of deletion. The message is deleted but must then be expunged to remove it completely.

User 3: The option to move a message to a folder exist, but it doesn't actually move it more like copy.

User 10: TWIG does not allow you to create subfolders.

IMP
User: 17 error message:
error:new folder was not created

User 5:
Warning: Uninitialized variable or array index or property (myemail) in ./lib/db.lib on line 148
Could not find a way to create a folder. When I clicked the "folders" option on the side menu, I got a screen that flashed by, then a blank screen. It appears that there is a folder management screen but not working.

Tried to "move" messages to the "sent-mail" folder, but apparently this puts them in the trash. trying to move them from the trash back to the inbox folder just created duplicates in the trash. I could get them out of the trash with the "undelete" command. Theoretically, move and copy both work, but I couldn't make them work the way I expected them to work.

User 5 (re-test): Can create folders. Can both move an copy. Did NOT work, however, in Netscpae 4.72/Mac OS 8.6. Successfuly testing on NT 4/Netscape 4.61.

WorldPilot
User 16: Can't create folder

User 7: The feature to create and delete folders exist, but it does not work well, it takes several attempts to create a folder. It only allows the user to delete sub folders. Selecting messages from the inbox to move to a respective folder does not work.

User 8: Moving a message from the Inbox to a folder or subfolder, then moving that message back to the top-level folder ("Mail"), causes the message to disappear. In addition, moving to the Mail folder from another folder produces a Zope error on the first attempt.

13. Search a folder for a message containing a word. User 14:on question 13:
Twig
IMP
User: 17 could not create new folders

User 15:: this works in 3.0 version of IMP

User 5: No search function available.

User 11: WorldPilot
User 16: Can't create folder. Tested above on Inbox

14. Reorganize the way messages are listed in a folder: User 14:on question 14:
Twig
User 2: Click twice on sort button for reverse order

User 4: click twice for reverse order.

User 10: Clicking on a sortable column header once sorts in ascending order; clicking a second time sorts in descending order.

IMP
User 5: Very flexible.

User 5 (re-test): d) this is a little weird, because while the index for the sent-mail folder has the header "from" what is listed appears to be who the message is *to* (recipient) but it doesn't sort in any meaningful way that I can figure out. Sorting alphabeticall, Jeff comes before Jane and Clara comes before Jeff.

User 9: I don't understand the sort order but it does reorder. The ordering of size seems to be the only thing that makes sense.

WorldPilot
User 16: Tested on Inbox

User 8: When sorting messages by subject, WordPilot alphabetizes followups separately from original messages; it also alphabetizes subject lines beginning with a capital letter separately from those without one. Also, the ascending/descending order indicators are the reverse of what I expected (based on Macintosh windows).

15. Delete a message.
User 14:on question 15:
Twig
User 12: Expunge method.

User 2: Using the selection boxes on the right does not delete a message - gives an error message "Wrong parameter count for imap_delete() in features/mail/mail.delete.inc.php3 on line 70.

User 3: It gives an error: "Wrong parameter count for imap_delete() in features/mail/mail.delete.inc.php3 on line 70" The message does not get deleted.User 4: Currently get an error message when deleting a message.

User 10: Selecting messages and clicking the delete button merely marks them for removal (a trash can icon appears next to the "deleted" message).

Clicking on "Empty Trash" physically purges the messages from the IMAP server. "Empty Trash" is also used to remove messages from one folder after they have been moved to another.

This can be changed by clicking "Delete and Expunge simultaneously" in mail prefs.

IMP
User: 17 messages are flagged for deletion but are not deleted until they are expunged.

User 17: Must be deleted (show trash icon) then expunged

User 15:: marks message for deletion

User 14:: In IMP you have the option after deleting a message to expunge it.

User 5: Marked message for deletion. Expunged. Checked ELM, message gone. Got typical IMAP "don't delete this message" message in inbox. Counted in ELM, but not counted, or displayed, in IMP.

User 9: Deleted messages are marked as being in the trash. You have to expunge to actually delete a message.

User 11: WorldPilot
User 16: Message still exists in Inbox. WorldPilot is flagging it somehow, haven't determined the mechanism yet.

User 7: No effect

User 8: Messages are not deleted from the IMAP server; however, a message that was deleted from the WorldPilot inbox while Elm was running on the server had its flag changed from "M" to "U".

16. Print a message. User 14:on question 16:
Twig
User 12: Normal browser printing.

User 2: Messages must be opened to print.

User 4: Messages must be opened to print (there is a print vuew button).

User 10: Choosing "Print View" when a message has been opened for display opens a new browser window with the message formatted for printing.

IMP
User: 17 can only print frame in which message resides

User 17: Printing options seem to be based on the browser. No automatic seperate window for reading messages

User 14:: couldn't do at the time in the Standards Lab no printer connected.

User 5: Standard browser-printing. No printing functionality within IMP application. Since it's implemented with frames, the message (or index) will print without the surrounding IMP application "stuff" surrounding it. But when you print a message, it does print all of the navigational stuff in that message frame.

User 9: Printing is browser based. You have to have the message open to print.

WorldPilot
User 16: Can't print.

User 7: Couldn't do (c), couldn't find it in the print options for Navagitor

User 8: Printing is handled by the browser's print command; the message must be on display in the message frame in order for it to print.

17. Reply to a message. User 14:on question 17:
Twig
IMP
User 5: Can reply, can include original, can edit original, can reply to all.

User 9: Can't seem to include attachments and IMP does break messages down into multiple parts.

WorldPilot
User 8: However, HTML text and text that was part of a message with attachments does not display and cannot be edited, though it does appear in the reply sent to another e-mail package.

18. Forward a message. User 14:on question 18:
Twig
User 12: I couldn't get it to also send the attachment.

IMP
User 5: Forwarded message with attachment came through OK (as a powerpoint file, as original). In Forward, can edit, can delete attachments

User 5 (re-test): c) forwarding text attachment results in goop (recieved in Eudora/mail.med). IMP treats text inconsistently, wonder if some of the cgi stuff that handles this is muckec up?

User 9: The message that I forwarded was sent as an attachment that was encoded. I was able to edit the message and insert a preface but not the body of the message.

WorldPilot

19. Redirect (or Bounce) a message. User 14:on question 19:
Twig
IMP
User: 17 from info is not preserved. Message looks like it came from "nobody"

User 17: Can't edit message/subject, knows nicknames

User 5: Yup. Can't delete attachments or change content or subject line, however. Retains original mail date. Can only enter a "bounce to" address. Still, better than Exchange . . .

WorldPilot

20. Send an email and do a cc: and bcc:.
User 14:on question 20:
Twig
User 2: Clear for cc, less clear for bcc

IMP
User 15:: bcc showed up as to

User 5: Can do both, no indication of bcc (ie, bcc recipient has to figure this out--but that's standard).

User 9: But no indication of bcc.

WorldPilot
User 7: The information in the "To" field is clear, but it does not show information in the "cc" field.

User 8: WorldPilot cannot display full headers.

21. Set a different reply-to address.
User 14:on question 21:
Twig
User 3: Not an option in TWIG

User 10: address can be set in mail preferences.

User 13: Not intuitive, I couldn't edit from the header, I had to go into preferences.

IMP
User 17: Prefences - edit your from line

22. Save a message as a separate (probably text) document external to your mail system. User 14:on question 22:
Twig
User 2: Used browser 'Save As' - no feature to do this in Twig.

User 10: Dragging the message subject to the desktop (on a Macintosh) creates a Netscape text file called "index.php3"; double-clicking the file icon opens it in a browser window; the file could not be opened by SimpleText ("this document is too large to be opened by SimpleText") or Word 98 ("This file contains nested tables that are too complex to render.").

User 13: Saved the entire web page.

IMP
User: 17 Attachment info(code) is also saved

User 17: USed 'Save As' in browser - opens as browser window.

23. Lookup a topic in the online help facility. User 14:on question 23:
Twig
User 2: Clicking on the "this is TWIG" takes you to Twig's home page - but most info seems more for server side.

User 4: Only has 'This is Twig' which directs user to twig home page.

IMP
User 17: Help seems to be available everwhere except the INbox

User 5: What help?

User 5 (re-test): OK. It has help if you look at the right page. Looking at an index of messages (INBOX, for example), there is no help visible. In the Compose, Contacts and Folders panes, help is available by clicking "?" icons. But if you only look in the index, you would assume that there is no online help.

d) well, not easy to use if you can't find it. no problem getting out of it, however.

User 9: There isn't an online help facility where you can look up topics but throughout the screens, contextural help is available.

User 11:

24. Send an authenticated message (this feature may be referred to as a digital signature. User 14:on question 24:
Twig
User 12: Have to have PGP loaded.

User 10: I could not figure out how to do this.

User 13: Depends on what you mean. I was able to create a signature, but I didn't see any options for authentication.

IMP
User: 17 n/a

User 17: No PGP

User 5: I can do PGP signing (since I have PGP installed). It seems to work. No other authentication that I can determine.

User 11: WorldPilot
User 8: I could not figure out how to do this.

25. Send an encrypted message User 14:on question 25:
Twig
User 12: Have to have PGP loaded.

User 6: Unable to view any contents of the message. It does appear as received in the Inbox, but when I click to view nothing appears, not even headers.

User 10: I could not figure out how to do this.

User 13: No options to do this.

IMP
User 17: No PGP

User 5: Yup. If PGP is installed.

User 11: WorldPilot
User 7: Message was received in the decrypted form.

User 8: I could not figure out how to do this.

26. Try to send some anonymous mail to yourself. User 14:on question 26:
Twig
User 12: Can't seem to do this.

User 6: I tried playing with the preferences feature of this webmail client but it would embed the "correct" email address.

User 10: Could not send an anonymous message.

User 13: Unable to send anonymous mail.

IMP
User: 17 very easy to do

User 17: Shows as coming from spinner-net

User 5: a) I coudln't. Perhaps an enterprising hacker could . . .

b) I did. Got the following message with full headers, no indication of @spinner account at all.

I think we need authenticated smtp . . .

so the answer to a) is either yes or no, depending on which situation you test.

User 9: This is a real problem. Since httpd is already sending the mail for the user, you can set the sender as anything you like and sendmail won't pick up the real user for the X-fields.

User 11:

WorldPilot
User 7: Again not a feature/option for this client.

User 8: Again, WP does not display full headers.

27. Create a message, body and headers, but don't send it. Save it first and then send it. User 14:on question 27:
Twig
User 4: Works on PC - not on the Mac I tested (see other script)

User 6: I saved the message in the "Sent-mail" folder, but accessing this folder, I could not find the message.

User 10: Default folder for saving messages is Inbox; this can be changed in mail preferences.

User 13: I created a drafts folder and then attempted to direct the drafts to go there, but the new folder did not show up in preferences and I could not find any of my drafts after I left the web page containing them.

IMP
User: 17 could not create a "draft" folder. Could not save the message

User 14:: Using the bounce, reply or forward options.

User 5: Can save (creates a postponed folder). Then find the message in the Postponed folder, and use the resume option to send.

User 9: See question 22.

WorldPilot
User 16: Apparently saved to Drafts folder, but no Drafts folder is available

User 7: I received a confirmation that the message was saved in the "Save Drafts" folder, but I could not find the folder nor the message.

User 8: The message received after saving the draft refers to a Drafts folder that cannot be accessed; in addition, it does not say where to go to continue editing.

28. Try to view the message header along with the body of the message. User 14:on question 28:
Twig
User 2: It's Full Headers or nothing.

User 4: Only full headers

User 6: I was able to send the full mail header, after copying it into another email from another account.

User 13: There were no options for viewing both basic and extended headers. I got one header regardless.

IMP
User: 17 script error messages

User 15:: extended only

User 5: Can show full headers in separate window, can send them on to someone else by using standard copy/paste commands. Can't tell if there are headers missing (not familiar enough).

User 9: not included.
You can send the full header if you cut & paste from message source.

WorldPilot
User 7: I was able to send the full mail header, after copying it into another email from another account.

29. Enable filtering to route incoming mail to specific folder. User 14:on question 29:
Twig
User 12: Using server filtering not from the app.

User 6: Not a feature of TWIG

IMP
User 5: No filtering

User 9: Using server-side filtering.

WorldPilot
User 7: Not a feature of Worldpilot

User 8: No filtering capability; all messages are transferred manually.

30. Quit the browser. Restart the browser and try to re-establish your session without actually logging in.
User 14:on question 30:
Twig
User 12: If you don't logout, you can close the window, open a new session and get right back where you were.

IMP
User: 17 unless I log out first. I can access my account by making a bookmark or going to the login page.No login is needed inbox is openned automatically User 15:: uses cookie session management

User 5 (re-test): You get back in right where you left off. Uh oh.

User 9: You need to log out.

User 11: WorldPilot
User 2: Quitting out without logging out leaves session open.

User 8: However, pasting the URL from the last session window into a new browser window opens the display frame minus the main navigational header. Not all functions are available, but you can view the message list and compose/reply to messages.

31. After quitting the browser, open your mail with Elm.
User 14:on question 31:
Twig
User 2: Didn't use Elm used Netscape Mail (IMAP)

User 4: Using Netscape Messenger Mail it does.

IMP
WorldPilot
User 16: Deleted messages are still there.

32. Test mail account utilities User 14:on question 32:
Twig
User 13: I have to go to elm to do these things.

IMP
User 5: Not within this application.

WorldPilot
User 7: You can create a signature file, in the Identity field.

33. Can the user set IMAP preferences? User 14:on question 33:
Twig
User 2: When moving a message between folders it shows up as a deleted item in teh original folder, 'Empty trash' must be selected to remove it.

User 4: see above - error when trying to delete mesages

User 6: You can move messages from one folder to the next.

User 13: Supposedly one should be able to manipulate messages between folders, however, as my folders did not show up in preferences, I am unable to truly evaluate this functionality.

IMP
User 5: Nope.

User 9: You can do some of these things but not set them in perferences.

WorldPilot

34. Other features. User 14:on question 34:
Twig
User 12: Scheduling, todos, bookmarks. I don't like the go to at the bottom of the screens. I'ts confusing about where you're going.

User 6: a"TODO" list, Calendar/Scheduler, a Contacts list, and a place to store bookmarks

User 10: Calendaring, full address book with notes, netnews client, to-do list, Web site bookmark list

IMP
User 5: LDAP. Can use LDAP but not able to enter more than one variable (like surname). Could be dependent on config, not sure. But if no option for setting up to search for more than surname, this will be problematic as it displays the results in one large pop-up menu.

User 5 (re-test): You can add contacts to the contact list from a message (nice feature). The contact list is still ugly, however.

WorldPilot
User 7: a"TODO" list, Calendar/Scheduler, and a place to write notes perhaps pertaining to the email message.

35. Other comments you'd like to make about the product's testing. User 14:on question 35:
Twig
User 2: First time I've run the script - I might have changes.

User 4: Some differences between Mac & PC - might be browser related.

User 6: It is very difficult to navigate through this client. You can't get to folders or compose a new message from the "main" menu. Also, if you send a messages to the "Trash" it still remains in that folder. All in all I think this client is to confusing.

User 13: I was very disappointed by TWIG. If other web based applications we are looking at are as poor, perhaps we should consider using a commericial service such as Microsoft Hotmail which has 10 times the functionality.

IMP
User: 17 Sorting of messages are not remembered. I like to see my new messages at the top. When I log out and log back in the settings are back to default.

User 5: VERY SLOOOOOOOOW.

User 11: On-line help not that helpful.

WorldPilot
User 7: This client is a bit easy to navigate, the main menu (Inbox) gives makes accessible all the built in features, but unfortunetly it lacks a few essential features see comments above.
