Redistribution of Evaluated Assignments to Students
Listserv/E-mail
Strengths
- E-mail nearly ubiquitous
- Student can be addressed directly
- Passive on students' part, so delivery more guaranteed
- Responses can be directed back to faculty member alone as appropriate
Weaknesses
- Attachments may be difficult to impossible to send
- Responsibilities of list owner can be time-consuming
- Secure e-mail has very limited deployment
- Errors in response could lead to one student receiving another student's work
- Most appropriate for text-based responses
- Server load can be severe
MOO
Netnews
WWW
Strengths
- Best support for multi-media material
- Password-protected "pick-up" areas can be created for each student
- Widespread use of WWW browsers, even moreso than netnews
- Little to no marginal server resource impact
Weaknesses
- Additional coding and design required to support "pick-up" areas for each student, though most schools provide good support
- Will likely not scale for large schools
