How to Configure FileZilla
2.2.32 to View HTML Files on Remote Servers (Windows XP/Vista)
This document provides instructions for configuring FileZilla to view the source
code of HTML documents on a remote server.
Configuring FileZilla to view remote files
You can view text files (not PostScript files that are designed for laser printing)
and HTML files without transferring them to your desktop or hard drive. This
is a quick way to read information contained in read.me and .message files.
FileZilla will display the selected text file in a separate window in Notepad.
Text files can end with the suffix .txt, .doc, or .html.
To configure FileZilla to view text files on a server:
- Start FileZilla (Start → All Programs → FileZilla
→ FileZilla
2.2.32). The main window displays.
- From the Edit menu, select Settings... .
The FileZilla Options window displays.
- In the left panel of the window, scroll down the list and select File
viewing/editing under Interface Settings category.
If you do not see this option, click the plus sign (+) next
to Interface
Settings to
expand
the menu.
- Click the File view/editing option. The FileZilla
viewing/editing window is displayed
on the right.
To select Notepad as the default program for viewing files on a server:
- Click the Browse button, and then navigate to your Local
Disk (C): drive folder.
- In the Local Disk (C): drive folder, locate, then double click the
WINDOWS folder to display its contents.
- In the WINDOWS folder, scroll to the right
or down to select notepad.exe
or NOTEPAD, and then click Open. (The Notepad program may
be listed with or without the ".exe" extension and may appear in upper-
or lowercase.) The File viewing / editing window now appears with the Notepad
path displayed in the field to the left of the Browse button.
- Click OK.
- You have successfully configured FileZilla to view text files on
the server.
