How to Configure iChat 5.0 for the Penn Jabber Service (Mac OS 10.6.x)

This document provides instructions for configuring the version of iChat that ships with Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard for the Penn Jabber Service.

Configuring iChat for the Penn Jabber Service

Configuring Mail for the Penn Online Directory will allow you to automatically look up a person in the Penn Online Directory and transfer their contact information into your Address Book. Each time you search the Penn Online Directory you will need to authenticate with your PennKey.

1. Launch Apple's iChat application. The Welcome to iChat window appears.
2. Click the Continue button. The Account Setup window appears.
3. From the Account Type: dropdown list, choose Jabber.
4. In the User Name: field, where username is your actual PennKey username, type username@upenn.edu
5. In the Password: field, enter your PennKey password.
6. Click the Server Options arrow.
7. In the Server: field, type jabber.upenn.edu.
8. In the Port: field, type 5223.
9. Select the Use SSL checkbox.
10. Click the Continue button. The Conclusion window appears.
11. Click the Done button. iChat will launch.
