AirPennNet for Mac OS 10.4.x
Recent modifications to Mac OS 10.4.x have made the University's AirPennNet installer less reliable. Follow the instructions below to manually configure your Mac OS 10.4.x system to connect to AirPennNet.
Basic troubleshooting information is located below.
Setting Up A Connection To AirPennNet In Mac OS 10.4.x
- Launch Internet Connect.
- If there is an 802.1X icon, click on that, otherwise choose New 802.1X Configuration... from the File menu.
- From the Configuration: dropdown list, choose Edit Configurations....
- Click the plus (+) button.
- Enter AirPennNet in the Description: field.
- Verify that AirPort is in the Network Port: field.
- From the Wireless Network: dropdown list, choose AirPennNet.
- Ensure that only the TTLS checkbox is selected for the Authentication: field.
- Select the TTLS checkbox and click the Configure... button.
- Select PAP from the TTLS Inner Authentication: drop-down menu while leaving the Outer Identity: field blank.
- Click the OK button.
- Click the OK button.
You are now configured to use AirPennNet. If you are having problems connecting after completing these steps, we recommend that you restart your computer.
Connecting to AirPennNet for the First Time in Mac OS 10.4.x
- Select AirPennNet from the AirPort dropdown menu. A dialog box appears.
- In the 802.1X: dropdown menu, select AirPennNet.
- In the User Name: field, enter your actual PennKey username.
- In the Password: field, enter your actual PennKey password.
- Click the OK button.
- When you successfully connect to AirPennNet, a certificate verification dialog box appears. Click the Show Certificate button.
- Select the Always trust "noc.dccs.upenn.edu" checkbox and click the Continue button. You may have to enter your Mac OS password (the one you use to log onto your computer).
If you are not successfully connecting, turn the AirPort off, wait about 10 seconds and turn it back on. It should instantly connect to AirPennNet. This step is especially useful if you are getting an "error connecting to the network AirPennNet" message.
If you have a pre-existing AirPennNet configuration from a previous installation of the Internet Connect component from PennConnect, you must remove it first by following these instructions. This also important if you have an obsolete AirSAS connection or an 802.1X connection from another university or a corporation.
