Virus Alerts

Introduction:
The table below lists the viruses that have had the largest impact on campus the past couple of years. The older and less common viruses are listed on the Past Alerts page. If you would like to report an occurrence of a new virus or suspicion of a virus, please send email to virus@isc.

Upgrading SAV software:
Due to a few vulnerabilities in older versions of the software and the added benefit of many new features, we strongly recommend upgrading your Symantec anti-virus software to the latest version. Currently, for clients, our latest standalone is 11.0.2 for Windows and 11.0.1 for MacOS 10.4.x and higher (download 11.0.0 and run LiveUpdate until no more updates are available). See the Anti-Virus Upgrade Chart for instructions and more information.

Updating Virus Definitions:
Updated Symantec virus definition files for Windows products are now often available daily via LiveUpdate (used to be released on a weekly basis). Symantec's Macintosh virus definition files are typically released weekly although sometimes more frequently.
