Stand Up. Speak Up. Lend a Hand.
December 14, 2006 :: Shirley Ross, Information Systems & Computing
Information
Systems & Computing planned, led, and facilitated the
kick-off videoconference in a two-month project with the Klein Foundation.
Students in 29 schools from California to England participated in
the event and heard from 83-year-old Holocaust
survivor and human rights activist Gerda Weissmann Klein, who promotes a very
positive message. She challenged all of the students to do a 60-day
service learning project. The students will “meet” again in January and share their experiences. This is one of many ways in which ISC promotes
Penn’s mission of outreach and community service through MAGPI (Mid-Atlantic GigaPop in Philadelphia for Internet2), the only power networking
gateway for the region’s research and education communities. MAGPI delivers cost-effective regional infrastructure that enables rapid transfer
of applications and information that the regular internet doesn’t provide.
