Introduction
Pidgin is an instant messaging program for Windows, Linux, BSD, and other Unixes. Pidgin supports AIM, ICQ, Jabber/XMPP, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, QQ, Lotus Sametime, SILC, SIMPLE, MySpaceIM, and Zephyr.

Configuring Pidgin
Step 1

First open Pidgin. If it's the first time you're launching the program, you'll see the Welcome screen. Click the Add button.

Step 2

In the Basic tab, select "XMPP" from the Protocol: pulldown menu. Enter your PennKey in the Username: field. Enter "upenn.edu" in the Domain: field.

Step 3

Click on the Advanced tab. Ensure the Connection security is set to "Require encryption". Ensure "5222" the Connect port: field. Enter "jabber.upenn.edu" in the Connect server: field. Click Add.

Step 4

You are now prompted for your PennKey Password. After entering it, click OK to begin using Pidgin.
