Support for Departments & IT Staff
Primary computing support is usually located in the Schools, units, and residences, close to the faculty, staff, and students being served. Contact lists are available for faculty, staff, & students. To look up your local support provider, select the appropriate link.
ISC offers the following specialized support services to Schools, business units, and Local Support Providers (LSPs).
Backups
Server Backup (Back-IT-UP): ISC offers backup transfer, storage, offsite recovery services and mirroring that are automated and self-administered. We store compressed data regardless of operating system, file type, or file size.
Desktop Back Up: ISC’s Secure Remote Backup (SRB) for desktops is a self-help service for continuous and real-time backup of desktop computers.
Desktop Management: ISC’s Managed Desktop service enables more effective management and support of desktop, laptop, and mobile devices. Our tools provide remote desktop administration, security patching, and software installation and inventories, all scheduled and managed remotely.
Data Center Services: ISC's state-of-the art data center provides database administration, disaster recovery, and storage management for systems and services. The data center can house servers belonging to Schools and Centers, provide storage and computing facilities for the research community, and tailor services to meet a wide range of equipment and application needs. In addition ISC provides consulting services on data center infrastructure and associated needs
Digital Signage: ISC LTS offering a shared Digital Signage Server Service using Carousel from Tightrope Media Systems. The service allows Schools and Centers to manage data content on digital displays on campus via an easy to use web interface.
Firewall Consulting and Support: ISC can assist with all aspects of planning and deploying a hardware firewall, from defining the perimeter and configuration to deployment and maintenance.
LAN Consulting: ISC LAN Technology Services provides for fee LAN consulting services. Our consultants can provide assistance to Local Support Providers and server administrators in every stage of Windows Active Directory domain planning, migration and deployment in a physical or virtual environment. Throughout the project we work with LSPs and server administrators to transfer knowledge and assist in documentation. Our consultants have experience in VMWare ESX and Microsoft Virtual Server 2008.
On Site Technical Support: ISC’s Support-on-Site’s (SOS) Dispatch service provides professional computing support to Schools/Centers with short- to medium-term needs to augment or backfill local IT staff as well as for departments that prefer to contract for technical support rather than manage local IT support staff.
Provider Desk: ISC’s Provider Desk is a phone and email support service designed to serve the needs of IT Local Support Providers (LSP).
Standards Lab: ISC’s Standards Lab is available for Local Support Providers (LSP) to test applications or services in a controlled environment with computers representative of what is currently supported at Penn.
Systems Administration:
Linux, Mainframe, Windows: ISC provides analysis, installation, maintenance, testing and technical support for enterprise Linux, Unix and Windows Server operating systems. Monitors system capacity and performance and develops and executes disaster recovery procedures. Services may also include: integrating new environments into existing data center environments, performing backups and applying operating system updates, patches and configuration changes.

LAN Services – Windows Active Directory Domains and Related Services: For University units that do not want to maintain and support Windows Active Directory domain controllers and related LAN services locally we offer support for domain controllers and file servers.

Virtual Desktop: ISC LAN Technology Services offers a virtual desktop service using VMware View. The virtual desktop infrastructure is hosted in ISC’s Data Center, and the virtual desktops can be accessed securely from any location at Penn, at home, or on the road.
VPN - Secure Remote Access System (SRAS): ISC’s SRAS allows users to connect/VPN to their School/Center server remotely using any Penn supported browser.
