Sustainable Computing
ISC maintains information on how to reduce e-waste and energy consumption, and provides many services that support the University’s sustainability goals.
Green IT: The Green IT web site is a resource to help the Penn community reduce energy consumption and produce less e-waste. It provides information about recycling options, tips for reducing paper and electricity consumption, and green purchasing advice.
Desktop Recommendations: ISC, in consultation with the Penn community, annually publishes recommendations for desktop computers, which include high efficiency systems requiring less electricity.
Desktop Management: ISC’s Managed Desktop service enables more effective management and support of desktop, laptop, and mobile devices. Our tools provide the opportunity to regulate power management settings which can effectively reduce electricity consumption.
Local Area Network - Virtual Server Hosting: ISC can provide space to host virtual machines in VMware on a Storage Area Network (SAN) located in ISC’s state-of-the art data center. Virtualization conserves both electricity and hardware.
Secure Hard Drive Disposal: ISC can assist you in the secure disposal of hard drives by providing Local Support Providers with access to our degausser and hard drive crusher machines.
Teleconferencing: Three-person conferencing can be done directly from office phones. For conferencing with more than three parties, ISC has partnered with two external providers to provide additional teleconferencing options.
Video Conferencing: For real time collaboration for research, distance learning, business, meetings, recruitment, and development, ISC offers a number of video and web conferencing options. You can videoconference from your desktop or in ISC’s specialized videoconference room.
