Network Services
Internet Access, Voice, Cellular
ISC's Networking and Telecommunications unit operates and develops PennNet,
the campus network; University telephone services; and the University's
gateways to the commodity Internet and to the high-speed Internet2.
Internet Access
As well as providing wired network connections in campus residence rooms
and offices, ISC partners with schools and centers to offer on-campus
wireless access in an increasing number
of
public spaces,
including
University
Square,
Houston
Hall, and the
Graduate Student Center. ISC also manages network (IP) addresses and domain
names for network servers in the upenn.edu domain.
For researchers developing and using high-performance applications with
high-bandwidth and speed requirements, ISC operates MAGPI, the local
on-ramp to Internet 2 and other international high-speed networks.
Voice and Cellular Services
ISC operates a full-service telephone and voicemail system for campus
offices, including such services as automatic call distribution and
interactive voice response. The Student Telephone Services unit provides
voice solutions for on-campus students.
