Information Security
The possibility of being exposed to a computer virus or a computing
vulnerability poses a serious, day-to-day threat to both your personal computer
and to Penn's entire computing environment. ISC provides services
and products to protect the University's information assets, limit liability,
and prevent
legal
and copyright
violations:
- ISC monitors regional and global virus activity, issuing alerts about
viruses that pose a threat to the Penn community and also makes anti-virus
software, including the latest security patches, available free of charge
to students, faculty, and staff.
- ISC has also taken the lead in several initiatives designed to protect
user privacy (and to shield personal and sensitive data). Recent efforts
have included PennKey, which ensures that passwords not longer pass over
the network
in clear
text (reducing their likelihood to be comprised) and reducing the visibility
of social security numbers in core administrative systems and applications.
For more information on how to safeguard your computing environment and for
information on the responsible use of Penn's electronic
resources, see Service Details to the right.
