Using the PennCloud Compute Service

Before you place an order with PennCloud Compute Service, you may want to review the following information. PennCloud Compute Services may be ordered by any Faculty or Staff member with a valid PennKey and an active budget or lawson code. ISC offers both Linux and Window operating systems in variety of sizes, with the option for additional storage. See our rates page for information on

You may log into the ordering and management site with your pennkey and password to begin. Once submitted, all PennCloud server information such as login credentials and IP addresses will be sent to customers via the Secure Share application. Your server will be up and ready for use in one business day.

Once logged in:

  1. Select Request New Server. This will display a web page that has been streamlined to make the server provisioning process simple and fast.

  2. Select the operating system you would like. The operating system choices are Linux and Windows. Each operating system selection will determine the server image type, which will be automatically filled in.

  3. The Server Name and Server Description entries are at the discretion of our customers. If you choose not to name your server, a generic name will be automatically generated.

  4. Select a server size and additional storage if required.

  5. Billing information can be entered in the Budget Code, Business Administrator, and Billing Type fields, where customers can specify billing cycles that fit their departmental business schedules.

  6. Please specify the type of data that will be stored. Security is of paramount concern to ISC and our customers, the type of data being stored will help determine how the server will be provisioned and what additional security requirements need to be in place. In addition, you can specify a firewall you want to have your server provisioned behind, allowing for more access flexibility.
