Planning Phase : Develop Training Plan
The purpose of this activity is to identify what information technical and functional users need in order to use the new system and the training formats that will be used. An additional purpose is to develop a schedule of specific training events or documents that need to be planned, executed and tracked.

The scope of the training plan should be based on the nature of the project being executed and an understanding of the nature and extent of the impacted constituencies. When preparing the training plan, it is recommended that the Training Plan Flow document and template be referred to for insight into an appropriate training schedule and which activities should be performed in each phase of a project. Thorough and targeted training allows for a smoother transition to the use of a new system.
A good practice in starting a training plan is to come up with a comprehensive project roster, listing all parties involved in or affected by the new system. From that list, the list of people who need to be trained (constituencies) can be derived.
The training plan is also intended to be a tracking instrument, which should be used to set up the schedule for and maintain the status of scheduled training events and activities in the plan.
An important point to remember is that the training plan, and possibly training materials, require project owner approval.
