Enhancing Extracurricular Life with IT

Up-to-the-minute information about Penn's wide array of social activities and services can be readily retrieved through the detailed, customizable online campus calendar. You can also learn more about the activities of hundreds of student organizations from their homepages, thanks to web resources provided by Office of Student Life. The latest infomation on the many popular events sponsored by University's Social Planning and Events Committee can also be obtained online.

Students here have also been pushing the edge of the envelope with communications technology. Penn undergraduates successfully launched a new Internet Radio Station, WQHS, while video technology enthusiasts help produce and program the University's TV station, UTV-13. Students have recently created rich web-media 'zines (e.g., MOSAIC). Penn students also run the financially independent, highly-read, award-winning campus newspaper, The Daily Pennsylvanian, whose online version includes enhancements such as discussion forums, exclusive articles, and extensive electronic archives.

Those with a special interest in technology will find numerous groups on campus where they can pursue their interests; many of these are member clubs of the Engineering Student Activities Council. From learning to fly to building and racing solar cars to entering robotics competitions, students are finding fun and challenging ways to develop new technical skills. At Penn, students also explore the real-world demands of bringing technology to life in organizations such as the Technology Entrepreneurship Club.

Beyond campus, the resources and attractions of a great city contribute to Penn's character. The University has assembled a wealth of electronic information devoted to introducing Penn students to the best of Philadelphia. Students are also harnessing technology to aid them in public service initiatives and to enhance their engagement with the neighboring community.
