Windows Automatic Update Service (WAUS)
In order to keep your computer and data secure, it is important to make sure that your operating system is up-to-date with the most current security patches released by Microsoft. Information Systems & Computing (ISC) offers a service that enables users to automatically receive critical patches for Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 operating systems from a local Penn server running Windows Automatic Update Service (WAUS). For additional information, please visit the WAUS FAQ.
All students are eligible to use this service, free of charge, and can configure their computer by downloading the installer.
Faculty & Staff:
Departments may register faculty and administrative users to participate in this service for an annual fee of $3 per computer. (Payment is only accepted in the form of a 26-digit budget code.) Local Support Providers (LSP's) or Business Administrators (BA's) should submit a form to initiate service.
Note: LSP's responsible for supporting public computing labs may install and use the WAUS service free of charge on these public machines.
LSPs can either use the installer to configure an individual's computer to use WAUS or, if running a Windows Domain environment, can create a policy on their domain controller to configure all computers within a local area network by following the documented instructions.
