Can I configure Host Presenter so that my e-mail host is already set?
Yes you can. Open Host Presenter and select the Setup menu. In the
Host: section type in your e-mail host name, e.g., pobox.upenn.edu. You
shouldn't have to alter the General Unix Profile in the Session Name: section.
After you set your e-mail host, select the Profile menu and then select Save as
Default Profile. Your e-mail host is now set as the default. For additional
information regarding Host Presenter, check the tipsheet at

A Macintosh alias file is a pointer to an original file, not a copy of
that file. It sounds like the alias you copied points to a file located on a
diskette. In order for the Macintosh to provide the file, you will need to
insert that diskette. If you will be using the file often, copy the original file
to your hard drive, then make a new alias of the file and delete the old alias.

Usually such messages can be traced. Don't delete the message. Make
as complete a copy of it as possible, including all of the headers, which help in
tracing. Most e-mail and news readers only display limited headers unless you
specify otherwise. To view detailed headers in Elm, select the message, and type
h. To view the headers in Eudora, select Switches from the Special menu,
click the Show all headers box, and then view the message. If you don't know how
to display all of the headers of a news or e-mail message, consult your system
documentation, or check with your computer support representative. Once you have
a complete copy of the message, contact the Univer sity Information Security
Officer (security@isc.upenn.edu). - Dave Millar, Data Administration
If you are using System 7.5 or higher there is. Use the Find command
from the Finder's File menu to locate the files you want to copy. Then select
the files from the Find window and copy them to their new location. If the
diskette to which you are copying has insufficient space for the files, you will
get a warning message. - Caroline Ferguson, CRC
It sounds like the battery that keeps the date and time current when
the Macintosh is off is dead. You can replace it yourself (replacement batteries
are sold by Apple Macintosh dealers), or have a dealer replace it if you don't
feel comfortable opening your computer. - Caroline Ferguson, CRC
Your desktop file, the file that keeps track of documents and the
application programs that created them (among other things), has probably been
corrupted or damaged. If so, your file will appear with a generic icon instead
of a Word icon.
You can usually repair the damage by rebuilding the
desktop file; this recreates the link between your Word document and the Word
application. To rebuild the desktop file, restart your Macintosh while holding
down the Command and Option keys. Keep these keys held down until the dialog box
appears that asks "Are you sure you want to rebuild the desktop file on the disk?
Comments in info windows will be lost." Click the OK button to confirm that you
want to rebuild the desktop file. Your file should now appear with a Word
document icon and should open. - Caroline Ferguson, CRC
