Standards Lab

The Standards Lab is equipped with computers that match Penn's Desktop Recommendations over a four-year replacement cycle. Configured with operating system and supported software versions that reflect the installed base of computers on campus, these systems provide a test environment for things such as:

  • Campus evaluation teams
  • Development of the PennConnect DVD
  • Supported Products updates
  • Schools and Administrative units interested in testing new applications for deployment on campus.

The Standards Lab is maintained by members of the ProDesk team and is available as a resource for local support providers who wish to test specific applications or services within a controlled environment. Discrete images containing the suite of Supported Products along with current versions of Microsoft Office Productivity software are available for each desktop computer in the lab. In addition, Virtual images (without MS Office) along with approximately 8 to 10 laptops are also available for testing purposes within the lab. The lab includes a combination of ports that support ethernet connectivity testing under both static and dynamic (DHCP) IP addressing as well as connections via modem, and AirPennNet (laptops only).

More information is available at the Standards Lab web site. To schedule time, write to prodesk@isc.
