Specific Desktop Environment Requirements for Administrative System Users

Penn's administrative systems desktop requirements are consistent with the desktop recommendations for general purpose systems. In general, ISC is comfortable with Windows 7 Service Pack 1 as the operating system of choice for administrative systems. The following is more specific information regarding compatibility of BEN Financials, Oracle EPM/Hyperion, and Webi/Business Objects with University supported operating systems, web browsers, and office suites, along with specific Java requirements.

BEN Financials

Windows

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 are certified by Oracle in combination with Firefox 10esr and Internet Explorer 8/9. No version of Google Chrome functions. A recent version of Oracle's JRE 1.6 (currently 1.6_43) is also required. Do not install JRE 1.7 - Oracle has not yet certified it.

OS X

OS X Lion and OS X Snow Leopard are certified by Oracle in combination with Firefox 10esr and Safari 5.1.x. No version of Google Chrome functions. A recent version of Apple's JRE 1.6 (currently 1.6_43) is also required.

Human Resources Management (Performance Appraisal, Requisition, and Tuition Benefits)

Windows

Firefox .current, Google Chrome .current, and Internet Explorer 8/9 are supported.

OS X

Firefox .current, Google Chrome .current, and Safari 5.1.x/6.0.x are supported.

Oracle EPM/Hyperion

Windows

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 are certified by Oracle in combination with Internet Explorer 8/9 and Firefox 10esr (note that CPUP users cannot upgrade to IE9 until UPHS's next Hyperion upgrade). Though the 64-bit versions of Windows are fully functional, 64-bit versions of Microsoft Office have not been tested with the SmartView add-in. No version of Google Chrome functions.

OS X

OS X Mountain Lion, OS X Lion, and OS X Snow Leopard are supported in combination with Firefox 10esr. No version of Google Chrome or Safari functions.

Webi/Business Objects

Windows

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 are supported in combination with Firefox 10esr/17esr and Internet Explorer 8/9 (Internet Explorer 10 and Google Chrome do not function). A recent version of Oracle's JRE 1.6 (currently 1.6_43) or JRE 1.7 (currently 1.7_17) is also required.

OS X

OS X Mountain Lion, OS X Lion, and OS X Snow Leopard are supported in combination with Safari 5.1.x or 6.0.x (Firefox and Google Chrome do not function). A recent version of Apple's JRE 1.6 (currently 1.6_43) is also required: do not install JRE 1.7.
