Update: Apple MacBook

November 8th, 2006

Apple has announced updates today to it's MacBook line that feature the Core 2 Duo microprocessor. Information Systems & Computing (ISC) does not believe that the Core 2 Duo is necessary for all new MacBook purchasers, though it may be worth investigating for users who run mid-range to high-end applications (including Boot Camp or Parallels).

What is almost certainly more valuable to the University community is the increase in standard RAM to 1.0 GB on all but the lowest end configuration. This means that most MacBook purchasers will have a usable out of the box configuration that meets or exceeds the Lightweight Laptop and Value Laptop specifications in the newly-revised Laptop Computer Purchasing Guide without having to add more RAM.
