Update: Dell OptiPlex 755October 9th, 2007 Dell currently offers its new OptiPlex 755 desktops with a choice of Windows XP Professional or Windows Vista. While there are no known issues with shipments of systems configured with Windows XP Professional, please note that Dell is currently unable to ship the OptiPlex 755 with the combination of any version of Windows Vista and a discrete video card. A discrete video card is required to meet the current Performance PC specification, whether with Windows Vista or Windows XP. Despite this inability to ship, the discrete video cards are still orderable with Windows Vista on Dell's Premier Page configurator for the OptiPlex 755. Information Systems & Computing (ISC) has been following up with Dell to see if the shipping status for these configurations can be flagged on the Premier Page. ISC suggests that purchasers of Windows Vista desktops purchase either the AMD-based OptiPlex 740 or the Intel-based OptiPlex 745 - if the purchase needs to be made in the short term. Otherwise, ISC believe that waiting for the availability of the 755s in the appropriate configuration is the best choice, as the OptiPlex 755 and other desktops of this latest enterprise-class generation have significant improvements in manageability and power usage. ISC will inform the PCNet list and update this web site when the configurations begin shipping with normal lead times. --John Mulhern III, Senior Project Leader, ISC Technology Support Services (October 9th, 2007) |
