Security advisory: multiple security vendors have reported and Adobe has acknowledged vulnerabilities in versions of Flash Player for OS X and Windows prior to 11.6.602.180. Information Systems & Computing (ISC) strongly suggests upgrading to Flash Player 11.6.602.180, available below. Compatibility note: there have been reports that Flash Player 11.3 is incompatible with Dragon Naturally Speaking for Windows and either Firefox or Internet Explorer. ISC suggests that Dragon users select Google Chrome as their default browser. Flash Player 11.4 was on the supported products list at the beginning of Fiscal 2013. This was upgraded to version 11.5 in late 2012 and to version 11.6 in early 2013. Product History at the UniversityAt the beginning of Fiscal 2009, the University supported Flash Player 9. Adobe released Flash and Flash Player 10 in October 2008 (fixing multiple security holes) and the University began supporting Flash Player 10 in December 2008. This support has been extended into Fiscal 2010 with an upgrade to Flash Player 10.1 in June 2010 (again fixing multiple security holes). Flash Player 10.1 was on the supported products list for Fiscal 2011. This was transitioned to Flash Player 10.2 mid-year due to multiple security holes in 10.1. Later in fiscal 2011, another transition was made to Flash Player 10.3 and this was the supported version at the beginning of Fiscal 2012. This was transitioned first to Flash Player 11.1, than to Flash Player 11.2 mid-year, and than to Flash Player 11.3 late in the year due to multiple security holes in 10.x. ISC is considering removing Flash Player from the supported products list for Fiscal 2014. Windows 8 CompatibilityFlash Player 11 is integrated within Windows Internet Explorer 10 and compatible with Windows 8. It is also compatible when used within desktop versions of Chrome and Firefox. OS X Mountain Lion CompatibilityFlash Player versions 11.3 and above function correctly in OS X Mountain Lion.
