Security advisory: multiple security vendors have reported and Microsoft has acknowledged an unpatched vulnerability in Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 that could allow remote code execution. Microsoft's document suggests several workarounds within Internet Explorer to block this vulnerability, but acknowledges that this reduces functionality in some cases. Information Systems & Computing (ISC) suggests using the University-recommended web browser, Firefox when possible.
Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 and Internet Explorer 7.0 remain on the supported products list for Fiscal 2009.
A number of administrative systems, including BEN Financials and Penn Benefits Enrollment, require the use of Internet Explorer for supported access to their products. Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 is currently the only University-supported web browser certified by Oracle to work with BEN Financials and Hyperion/Oracle Planning. Users of these systems should avoid upgrading to Internet Explorer 7.0 until support for running them within Internet Explorer 7.0 is announced. Support is expected sometime in late 2008. BEN Application users should refer to the BEN Desktop Standards Document for further information.
