Symantec Endpoint Protection Support Tool

The Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) Support Tool can be used either to diagnose problems that you encounter, or proactively to ensure that your computer is ready to install the Endpoint Protection manager or client.

Options for data collection for analysis include:

  • Pre-installation check for SEP 11.x
  • AV console not installed
  • Definitions and Content Signatures
  • Load Point Analysis

It takes ~5-10 minutes for the tool to gather the Load Point Analysis data, but all the rest of the data gets collected rather quickly. Once the tool has finished collecting all the requested data, it lays out the options for analyzing said data. Reports can be saved to the local machine. They end with a .sdbz extension.

Other notable points from the Help file:

  1. The Symantec Endpoint Protection Support Tool (SEP_ST or ST) is a utility designed to quickly and efficiently diagnose common issues encountered with Endpoint Protection and the Endpoint Protection Manager. Currently the utility is limited to issue diagnosis on the local machine (IE: The machine that is running the utility).
  2. Due to time constraints, it is best to only select what would be relevant to your issue. For example: if you are having trouble installing the Endpoint Protection Client, you would select "installation" and then "SEP Client"

NOTE: The SEP Support Tool can be downloaded directly from SEP 11.0.5 clients (and higher) via the "Help and Support" button -> "Download Support Tool" option. Symantec has a full write-up about the SEP Support Tool for those interested (includes download).
