Unfiltered IP address requests
ISC Networking will begin filtering inbound UDP and TCP traffic on ports 135,
137, 138, 139, & 445 on April 11th.
In preparation for filtering, ISC will reserve a block of unfiltered IP addresses
to which a small number of servers unable to be secured in advance of the implementation
can be moved. These unsecured IPs will be in place for a short period of time
during which ISC will work with local system administrators to identify more
permanent and secure methods of providing access to their servers.
To request a temporary unfiltered IP address, please send email immediately
to millar@isc.upenn.edu with
the following information:
- Current IP address of the server(s) for which you require an unfiltered
IP address
- Wallplate(s) of the impacted server(s)
- Number of users accessing the server(s)
- Reason(s) the server(s) warrants an unfiltered IP address
- Reason(s) why solutions such as Remote Desktop and Secure FTP are not viable
Unfiltered IP addresses will be granted subject to the approval of the School/Center
IT Director, and will be limited to the most urgent needs. Please plan on 3-5
days to review and process a request. Additional information will be provided
to groups or individuals requesting unfiltered IP addresses.
