How to Tell If Your Computer Has A Virus

Your computer might be infected with a virus or other kinds of malware if it exhibits unusual symptoms and behaviors.

Computer Virus & Malware Symptoms

Below are common symptoms that may indicate your computer is infected with a virus:

    • The computer runs more slowly than normal or takes a long time to start up.

    • There are unfamiliar programs or processes running in the Task Manager.

    • Your antivirus program is disabled, and you cannot run it.

    • Applications on your computer don't work correctly.

If You Suspect You Have a Virus

If you suspect your computer has been infected with a virus, do the following:

  1. Update your virus definitions immediately. Manually run LiveUpdate to get the latest virus definition files from the vendor's web server.

  2. Run a full system scan. If a full system scan reports that there are no viruses, your system probably isn't infected. However, if you're still unsure check with your LSP. If you are unable to run a system scan, then you probably have some type of malware on your computer.

  3. Disconnect from the network if you think you have a virus.
