Virus Tip: Patch Operating Systems and Software

It's critical that your computer's operating system stay up-to-date with the most current security patches released by Microsoft and Apple. Patches correct known software and security problems as well as software issues discovered by the vendor. Make sure your computer is set up to automatically download and install operating system patches and updates.

How to Patch the Microsoft & Apple Operating Systems

Faculty and staff should check with their LSP to determine how patches are applied in your work area.

Patching Other Software

In addition to patching your antivirus software, you may need to patch software from other vendors. For software not listed on the Supported Products page Leaving Virus website, contact the vendor to obtain updates or register your software so that you can be alerted to product updates. Be aware that not all companies release patches or software updates, that most patches are free to download, and that older releases of programs are patched less frequently than newer versions.
