Repair Requests

Many organizations on campus have a staff member in their business office who coordinates (and is more familiar with processing) phone requests. You may want to ask this person to report the line problem(s).Working with a designated staff member is particularly helpful when more than one phone line in an area is without service. Who the staff member contacts for repairs depends on the telephone system used.

PennNet Phone Support

To report problems with Cisco or Polycom IP telephones, data lines, and voice mail, contact your Local Support Provider Leaving Voice website.

Traditional Phone Support

Troubleshoot First

Here are common problems encountered on Meridian Business Sets (MBS), single line sets, two line sets, Norstar, Eagle, and Extrom phones that you may be able to resolve before submitting a request for service repair:

  • No dial tone: make sure that the telephone is plugged in correctly. If it is plugged in correctly, check to see if it is plugged into a jack with a small blue tab beneath it on the wallplate.

  • Static on your line: check all cords attached to your phone by wiggling each back and forth. If you hear static when wiggling one of the cords or if the cord does not stay connected properly, it may need to be replaced.

  • Can't hear the caller: check your set’s volume control. If using the control does not alter your ability to hear the caller, then the set will likely need to be replaced.

  • Calls cut off or fade in and out: the problem may be related to your handset cord. Make sure the cord is not tangled and that it is securely plugged into the set.

  • Trouble placing a call: make sure that you are dialing correctly.

  • Unable to receive calls: make sure the volume on your ringer is turned all the way up and that your phone is plugged in properly.

How to Request Repairs
