Wireless PennNet: Getting Started

What do I need?

To start using Wireless PennNet, you need a laptop computer (or other wireless device) equipped with an 802.11b-compatible wireless card (most new laptops come equipped with this wireless card). In addition, you will need a PennKey and associated password.

Recommended Wireless Cards

For best results, we recommend one of the following wireless cards:

  • Cisco Aironet 350 Series Card
  • Belkin Wireless Notebook Network Card
  • Apple AirPort or AirPort Extreme Card

Logging On

To begin using Wireless PennNet in public areas, you must first launch an SSL capable web browser. A screen will appear requiring that you authenticate to the network using your PennKey and Password. Once you're authenticated, you can conduct your regular computing activities including surfing the web and checking e-mail.

Service Basics

Before logging on the first time, you may want to skim thru the Using the Service FAQ for quick answers to general service questions. Or if you are having trouble connecting to Wireless PennNet, you might want to try suggested solutions listed on the Troubleshooting FAQ.
