  understanding and retention of the course content. This workshop aims to 
 provide participants with the interactive tools to promote engagement with
 in the lecture format. First\, we will briefly address some of the theoret
 ical reasons for the importance of interactive teaching and learning. Then
 \, we will focus on concrete strategies (including technology and small gr
 oup work) that will promote interaction in your classroom. We will discuss
  disciplinary differences in application of these strategies as well as th
 e strengths and weaknesses of various methods of getting students to inter
