DESCRIPTION:This workshop will focus on crafting written evaluations\, such
  as letters of recommendation and other formal assessments of student capa
 cities. Using concrete samples\, Professors Frederick Dickinson and Sarah 
 Barringer Gordon will share their advice and expertise on a range of topic
 s surrounding formal letters\, ranging from foundational matters like expe
 cted length and tone of address\, to more delicate issues\, such as discus
 sing students’ shortcomings or when it is appropriate to decline request
 s to write a letter.\n\nAll graduate students are welcome. This event grow
 s out of concerns in the History department and so may be most useful to s
 tudents in related fields. Counts toward the CTL Teaching Certificate.
