Joseph E.
Corcoran, Sr. founded the Corcoran Jennison Companies in
1971, and has served since then as Chief Executive Officer. In 2002,
the combined Corcoran Jennison Companies will gross $350 million
in revenues, with a portfolio that includes multifamily, commercial,
and hotel/resort properties.
Corcoran Jennison Companies has developed, and owns and manages
over 23,000 apartment units in its multifamily division, many of
which are mixed-income communities. The company is a pioneer of
the mixed-income housing concept. Most notable of these communities
are Harbor Point Apartments in Boston, Massachusetts, and King's
Lynne Apartments in Lynn, Massachusetts, where blighted public housing
complexes have been successfully converted to mixed-income communities
in partnership with public housing tenant associations.
The 1,283-unit Harbor Point has been the recipient
of a number of awards, including the 1992 Urban Land Institute Award
for Excellence, in 1993 the Rudy Bruner Award for Excellence in
the Urban Environment, and the 1996 FIABCI Award for International
Excellence. In 1993 the American Society of Landscape Architects
elected Mr. Corcoran to the Landscape Architecture Urban Innovation
Honor Roll.
Mr. Corcoran is a 1959 graduate of Boston College.
He served as Chairman of the Board of Registration of Real Estate
Brokers and Salesmen for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from
197l-1975. Currently he is a member of the Urban Land Institute,
the National Association of Home Builders, and serves on the Board
of Directors of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Suffolk
County, the YMCA of Greater Boston, Boston College High School,
and the American Ireland Fund. He also founded The American City
Coalition, a nonprofit organization that plans and implements the
revitalization of urban neighborhoods.
His other associations include Boston College,
where he serves as a member of the Executive Committee of the Board
of Trustees, and is Chairman of the Buildings and Properties Committee.
He served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Carney Hospital
in Boston, and was the first President of the Carney Foundation.
Married to the former Rosemarie Gildea, the Corcorans have seven
children, four of whom are associated with the Corcoran Jennison
Companies.
