Participating Employers

Rockefeller Foundation Redevelopment Fellowship placements are sought in each of the organization types that play major roles in the implementation of public/private redevelopment projects. Organizations that employ fellows are primarily focused on work at the local level in New Orleans. To the extent that capacity and funding is available, fellowship placements with broader regional or state-wide impact may also be considered. Employers participating in the Rockefeller Foundation Redevelopment Fellowship either receive referrals of fellowship candidates from the Center for new jobs, or nominate existing employees in appropriate positions for fellowships. Participating employers include:

  • Development organizations.
  • Government agencies and authorities responsible for redevelopment funding and/or implementation.
  • Financial institutions investing in affordable and mixed income housing, or distressed-area commercial development, or supporting reinvestment in other ways.
  • Organizations playing other types of direct roles in the redevelopment process, such as manufactured housing production and investment and philanthropic organizations focused on individual neighborhood redevelopment initiatives.

Although job titles and specific responsibilities vary among individual Rockefeller Foundation Redevelopment Fellowship placements, all fellows are in positions that contribute directly to the redevelopment process. Fellows’ roles also have specific project content, requiring fellows to:

  • Interpret their organizations’ general programs, guidelines and roles in the context of particular projects; engage with partner organizations playing different roles in the redevelopment process, and resolve issues.
  • Coordinate decisions, resources and action from their organizations on specific projects or investments.
  • Develop policies and program structure that inform organizational involvement in specific projects.
