Monika McKay is a
Project Manager at Columbia Residential out of Atlanta Georgia, a
company that shares her passion for inspirational affordable housing.
She is part of a team responsible for the redevelopment of the New
Orleans St. Bernard housing project using HOPE VI funds.
Ms. McKay is a native New Orleanian who has over four years of professional
and personal experience in the fields of real estate finance and rehabilitation
of blighted property. Ms. McKay started her housing career in sub-prime
mortgage lending and most recently held the position of underwriter
for the CDBG distributor ICF for the Road Home project. There, she
worked exclusively with non-profits who had damage to their rental
propertied due to hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Ms. McKay was instrumental
in granting over ten million dollars to affected non-profits, conducting
financial feasibility analysis, due diligence and technical assistance.
In addition, Ms. McKay developed a wealth of experience assisting
hurricane impacted evacuees during her tenure with the American Red
Cross post-Katrina in Houston.
Ms. McKay is happy to be home and resides near historic Algiers
Point. Being from New Orleans, she has first hand knowledge of the
impact hurricane Katrina has left on the city of New Orleans’
affordable housing market. As a result, Ms. McKay has dedicated
her professional career to ensure that a vital component of her
community and economic revitalization is not washed away.
Ms. McKay received a B.A. in English Literature from the University
of Houston in 1998.
