Deadline: mid-February, 2008 at CURF

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation will award approximately 35 graduate scholarships to outstanding students for use during the following academic year. Each award will provide funding for tuition, room and board, required fees, and books for up to six years of graduate study. Jack Kent Cooke Scholars may use the award to attend any accredited graduate school in the U.S. or abroad to pursue any graduate or professional degree.
There is an option for applicants in the fine or performing arts.

Eligibility and Qualifications

  • Applicants must be seniors or recent graduates (within the last five years.)
  • Applicants must demonstrate strong leadership skills and a committment to volunteerism and public service
  • Due to the sum of the scholarship, applicants must have the highest academic standing. All applicants must demonstrate a high level of achievement as described by superior grades, academically rigorous courses, and participation in challenging extra-curricular activities
  • Those activities that showcase leadership potenital and the applicant's ability to motivate and accomplish tangible goals are highly regarded

Application Procedures and Selection Criteria

Penn may nominate two applicants; the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship Program does not accept applications directly from the candidates.

Winners are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic achievement and intelligence
  • Financial need
  • Will to succeed
  • Leadership and public service
  • Critical thinking ability
  • Potential to make a significant contribution to field of study and/or society
  • Appreciation for/participation in the arts and humanities

Timeframe

Application materials will be available in November.
All completed application materials, including recommendations and transcripts, must be at CURF by its deadline.
Once the Penn Jack Kent Cooke Committee has nominated two students, CURF will forward that nomination to the central Jack Kent Cooke committee for consideration.
