Historic Germantown Summer 2014 Internship

Students with interests in colonial America, historic site management and preservation, museum studies, archaeology, ecology, gardens, and community-building are encouraged to apply for this internship in one of Philadelphia’s most important historic neighborhoods. The fifteen sites which make up Historic Germantown (HG) comprise a wide and diverse variety of spaces, including historic houses, arboreta and gardens, the site of the first American paper mill, and early graveyards. The HG consortium organizes programming and engages in planning and research to improve the visibility of all of its member sites and to draw new audiences to these remarkable jewels within urban Philadelphia. The intern will be based at the Germantown Historical Society but will work at multiple sites within HG.

The intern’s responsibilities will be tailored to individual interests and may include the following:

  • Event organization and staffing
  • Site promotion and marketing
  • Historical research, in consultation with staff of various sites
  • Participation in community-based planning and discussions
  • Assisting with volunteer recruitment and training
  • Web site development
