Philadelphia History Museum Summer 2013 Internship

The Philadelphia History Museum, the city’s official history museum, offers a summer internship that involves interns in youth programs, exhibition development, and collection management. The principle focus of the internship will be working with youth groups visiting the museum. This will include program development, working out program logistics, and leading groups. Interns also will conduct the annual survey of renewable loans of artifacts in local institutions. Interns will be asked to assist with occasional marketing, administrative, and development projects when needed. Interns attend the weekly staff meetings.

Required Skills:

• Basic knowledge of American history and familiarity with Philadelphia history
• Experience working with children and/or young teens
• Flexibility
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to work on a team and to take direction

Schedule:

The internship starts any time after mid-May 2013 and runs through early August 2013. Interns work most of their hours at the museum on a Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. schedule. When interns work with the Collection Department, they work at the Collection Research Center in East Falls.

Supervision:

Interns report to: Cynthia Little, Ph. D., Historian

Location:

The museum is located near Independence Mall at 15 South 7th Street.
