In memory of College Senior Kam Moukwa, the College will fund one summer intern in the Philadelphia Mayor’s Office beginning June 8, 2009, and ending August 7, 2009. As part of the City of Philadelphia’s Mayor’s Internship Program, interns will work a minimum of 20 hours per week for 9 weeks and receive a stipend of $2,200. Interns must have completed their sophomore year at Penn.
Interns will work on projects and tasks providing research, administrative, and staff assistance to city managers, attend weekly Friday programming (e.g., a speaker series, site visits, trainings), and participate in a group project. The strongest candidates will have an interview and a formal interview with the Mayor’s Office before being selected.
In addition to completing the general Summer Humanities Internship application for CURF, please include with your application:
- A current resume reflecting your past work history and any school or community activities in which you have been involved. Include the names of all organizations, the title of the organization and the dates of participation.
- In an essay not to exceed 500 words, describe your reasons for applying to the Mayor’s Internship Program, detailing what you believe you can contribute and what you hope to get out of an internship experience. Please include any specific areas within city government that are of interest to you.
- List one professional reference and your relationship to them, including the reference’s email and phone contact information.
