Using this Directory

Faculty offering research are listed alphabetically within five broad subject areas:
  • Biomedical Sciences
  • Business and Economics
  • Engineering and Computing
  • Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Physical and Theoretical Sciences
Social psychology projects are listed with social sciences; bio-psychology projects are listed with biomedical sciences. Projects are cross-listed when appropriate.

Contact information lists faculty names, departments, addresses and phone numbers. Addresses given are usually University intramural addresses. For US mail addresses, use the department name, room number, building, "Philadelphia, PA 19104-" and the mailcode. Email addresses may be internal to Penn. If so, add "upenn.edu". A blank space indicates information the faculty member did not provide.

Finding Other Faculty

It is quite likely that students will have interests that are not represented in this list. Information on identifying other potential faculty mentors is available. Students can talk to an academic advisor, to Cheryl Shipman, CURF research coordinator; or to a professor who has taught in that field for help in their search. There are many more faculty doing research who are not listed in this directory.

Funding, Credit and Recognition

Depending on the project, its relation to the student's major, the student's status and needs, projects may be eligible for independent study credit, may be paid from the faculty sponsor's grant, or may be eligible for a competitive grant to the student.
Finished projects can be published in an array of electronic or hard-copy research journals, either within Penn or without, and are eligible for several department and school-wide prizes.
