Janice Bellace will explain: "Why Smart Women Aren't Having Babies."
The gender wage gap was a hot topic thirty-five years ago when Janice Bellace was writing on the legal aspects of sex-based wage discrimination and first set out to understand the reasons for this wage gap. In the intervening time, women have caught up in educational achievement with men and don't drop out of the labor market when they have babies. Does the wage gap still exist and if so, why?
Professor Bellace, Samuel Blank Professor of Legal Studies and Professor of Legal Studies and Management at the Wharton School,
specializes in international human rights law in the employment area.
Janice served as Wharton’s deputy dean and headed the undergraduate school.
More recently, she served as Deputy Provost at Penn, and as
chair of the Department of Legal Studies and Business Ethics from 2008-2012.
The author of numerous books, chapters, articles and papers,
she received her bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and holds a
