The M&T Program promotes student and alumni/ae interaction at every turn. Graduates of the program provide formal and informal mentoring and are always willing to talk to current students. The M&T LinkedIn Group currently boasts over 1,100 members, including both students and alumni/ae. On any given day, an M&T alum may be hosting a Brown Bag Lunch, holding a recruiting event, or demoing a product they’ve developed to get student feedback. Below are some of the most common ways that current students and alumni/ae of the Program connect and network.
A number of events are planned throughout the semester by M&T Program staff and the M&T Student Board to foster cooperative engagement between students and graduates. Events take place both on and off campus.
NYC Student-Alumni Networking Event: Every fall, approximately 50 current students travel to Manhattan for the chance to meet a number of local M&T alumni/ae residing in the area. This is one of the most popular M&T Student Board events of the entire academic year!
Alumni-in-Residence Series: These small, informal occasions take place throughout the semester, with a focus on career paths. Alumni/ae from a variety of industries and backgrounds meet with students over lunch, dinner, or coffee, in the form of a Brown Bag Lunch, Brown Bag Dinner, Coffee Chat, or Women’s Event. The Program has even held Skype chats for those alumni unable to venture to campus.
NYC Career Trek: This event offers current students a glimpse into the world of diverse industries. M&T alumni/ae and their employers host students for informative tours and Q&A discussions. Students most recently visited the Manhattan offices of Palantir Technologies, Goldman Sachs, Evercore Partners, Fab.com, JP Morgan, and Google.
M&T Alumni Mentor Program: This special pilot program for the M&T Class of 2018 matches hand-selected M&T alumni with M&T freshmen for a one-on-one mentoring experience. Mentors provide guidance on acclimating to Penn, networking, recruiting, academics, and industry interests. We hope to grow this new iniative so that future incoming classes may participate as well.
It’s plain and simple: M&T’s love hiring other M&T’s.
Recruiting Events: Some graduates work with their employers to host large, M&T-specific recruiting events on campus. Others may host more informal sessions with a smaller group of M&T students to discuss job openings, the recruiting process, and company culture.
On-Campus Recruiting: Many alumni/ae specifically seek out M&T students for full-time or summer employment. They may work closely with a recruiting team in their firm or one-on-one with students to recruit top talent within the program.
M&T Intern Fellowship Award: The M&T Intern Fellowship Award offers financial support to students who secure internships with entrepreneurial ventures. M&T alumni and alumnae strongly support this unique opportunity exclusive to M&T students. Many graduates of the program hire M&T students every year for dynamic summer internships at their start-ups. Additionally, many graduates provide financial support to the Award, ensuring that more students are able to receive funding each year.
