Jay Livingston and Ray Evans
Recalling a "golden age" of songs that "made sense."
Take three of the most prolific songwriting pairs in history -- Gilbert and Sullivan, Rodgers and Hart, and Lennon and McCartney -- and you get a total of 59 years of musical collaboration. That sounds impressive until you consider the track record of composer Jay Livingston, C'37, and lyricist Ray Evans, W'36. Andrea Kremer
Some call her the best sports reporter on TV.
"I need a box!" Andrea Kremer's scrambling request can be heard in locker rooms throughout professional sports, usually spoken with a microphone in her hand and a deadline in her face. The athletes will talk to her. That isn't the problem. But when the interview gets broadcast to ESPN's millions of subscribers, often live, the five feet, two inches tall Kremer doesn't want to look like a munchkin. Continued . . .


Dr. Richard Estes
Professor has translated social concerns into action.
Poring over The Grapes of Wrath as an undergraduate more than three decades ago, Dr. Richard Estes, SW'67, was struck by the plight of the fictional Joad family -- tenant farmers ousted from their Oklahoma land by dust storms and a bank foreclosure. He wanted to find a way to help the real Joads of the world. And so a career in social work began. Continued . . .


Mother of Influence
Mother's Day was this month, and among the Penn alumnae celebrating were three who were ranked among "The 25 Most Influential Working Mothers" in the February 1997 issue of Working Mother magazine. Continued . . .


Judge Marjorie Rendell
District Court Judge Marjorie ("Midge") Osterlund Rendell, CW'69, could soon be trading jury trials for appellate decisions. President Clinton in January nominated her to a vacant judgeship on the Third U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia. Continued . . .
