A Very Selective Class

Almost exactly 250 years before the Class of 2006 celebrated its Commencement on Franklin Field—on May 18, 1757—eight lucky graduates of the University’s very first class received their diplomas from the then-College of Philadelphia. This one, courtesy of the University Archives and Records Center, belonged to James Latta (1732-1801), later a Presbyterian clergyman who served as a chaplain and soldier in the Revolution.
