After 50 years, remembering Bert Bell C’20’s “fantastic ending”

It took 10 years of determined advocacy, but this past June, a buoyant Joshua David C’84 stood with Mayor Michael Bloomberg and other supporters of the High Line park to cut the ribbon on the former railroad viaduct on the West Side of Manhattan, thus officially opening the first section of the 1.5-mile elevated park to the public. David is co-founder and chief development officer of Friends of the Highline [“Alumni Profiles,” May|June 2004], while James Corner GFA’86 GLA’86, professor and chair of landscape architecture at Penn and principal architect of James Corner Field Operations, was the project’s landscape designer.
