Graduate Group in Philosophy

1. Regardless of how much discussion, annotation, data-gathering or exchange of information occurs, faculty members can claim a share in the authorship of work published by present or former undergraduate or graduate students only in accord with (a) a prior written agreement between the student and faculty parties or (b) a written agreement between the student and faculty parties and a third party, e.g., a publisher.

2. Students can claim an acknowledgment of authorship in work publishecd by faculty members only in accord with a prior written agreement.

3. Faculty members will receive no authorship credit for suggesting or supervising research projects, seminars, or work done under outside funding, except as noted above. Students may of course acknowledge help from faculty members in a foot- or end-note without prior agreement.

4. General practice in the field of philosophy is that the names of joint authors or editors are listed in alphabetical order. Departure from alphabetical order should be agreed upon by all parties prior to publication.
