The Fellows of the Fontaine Society are committed to promoting the intellectual, cultural and civic enrichment and development of populations of color within the University of Pennsylvania and throughout Philadelphia and its environs. To the end, we are attentive to and actively engaged in utilizing and expanding the range of resources available to the Society and its fellows. We plan to regularly implement and co-sponsor social and educational opportunities for increased fellowship within the Society. The Society encourages and participates in the volunteer and community outreach efforts of its members. We endeavor to reanimate the points of affinity between continuing fellows and alumni; between the Society and undergraduates, faculty and staff at Penn; and between the Society and other graduate organizations at the University and throughout the city of Philadelphia. In recognizing that both privilege and struggle attend our status as graduate students and scholars at Penn, the Fontaine Fellows are moved to engender responsive and reciprocal socio-cultural and intellectual processes which are cognizant of the legacy from which we benefit and which we are obliged to perpetuate.
