Shimon Schocken is Dean of the Computer and Media Sciences School at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) in Herzliya, Israel. Before joining IDC, Schocken was Associate Professor and Director of the Information Systems undergraduate program of New York University. He holds a Ph.D. in operations and information management from the University of Pennsylvania. His doctoral thesis won the 1987 ICIT Award for the best information technology dissertation written in the USA, Canada, and Europe. Schocken's most recent research focuses on developing new architectures for asynchronous learning networks (ALN). IDC runs a large-scale ALN research project funded by Israel's Chief Scientist Office and by a consortium of 25 leading Israeli high-tech companies.
